The Italian Society for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy – Società Italiana di Psicosintesi Terapeutica – (S.I.P.T.) was founded in FLORENCE (Italy) in December 1973, under the auspices of Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis, who authorised its birth and independent life from the original Institute of Psychosynthesis, delegating to SIPT the field of therapeutic Psychosynthesis itself and, specifically, the area of psychotherapy, which has been the unique reference point in Italy of the training of psychotherapists according to psychosynthesis.
Assagioli’s students( physicians, psychiatrists and clinical psychologists) were the founders and first teachers of the educational programs.
In addition to the psychotherapy training, the purpose of SIPT, since its creation, has been to promote studies, research and dissemination of clinical psychosynthesis and psychosynthesis psychotherapy, through publications, organization of congresses, creation of a Clinical Center with psychotherapeutic activity and the birth of a Therapeutic Psychosynthesis Magazine – Rivista di Psicosintesi Terapeutica).
Since 1974, the Italian Society for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy trains psychotherapists, by the major theoretical, methodological and practical developments of psychosynthesis psychotherapy.
In 1994, adhering to the governmental criteria for private training institutes of psychotherapy in Italy, the School of Psychosynthetic Psychotherapy- Scuola di Psicoterapia Psicosintetica was created, recognised by the Ministery of University and Scientific Research of the Italian Government on 29.09.1994. It was managed by SIPT and was based on an essential educational cooperation agreement with the Institute of Psychosynthesis in Florence founded by Assagioli, which has joined the academic body of the School, taking care of part of the program through the teaching of basic Psychosynthesis theory and practice as it is taught in 13 centres of the Institute in various Italian cities.
The School has a four year program for graduates in psychology and medicine, with a Director and a Council of Trainers who run the School.
Since 1996, SIPT also organizes courses of basic(two years) and professional(three years) counseling through a Psychosynthetic Counseling School – Scuola di Counselling Psicosintetico for the training of counseling according to the psychosynthesis model.
